An intensely personal project that I undertook the day after my grandmother passes away. To deal with het sudden death and to keep my head together, I sought refuge with my camera. I documented everything in her house, all the knick-knacks and furniture that were in my life from infancy to adulthood. Nothing had really changed and I wanted to preserve my grandparent’s home exaltey as it was the day she left for the hospital and never returned.
Her handwritten doctor’s appointment that she would not be attending. Her shoes placed by her easy chair. Her recipe card collection and Christmas cactus started from her mother’s plant and that I know tend to. To this day, as I revisit these photos, I’m struck at the stillness, the sadness, and above all the simplicity of her life
